Larressingle was second by a length - some nice team play from Carrot Club, although we were the ones on the unlucky side of the equation. Notwithstanding, no complaints on the horse, which was obviously well-prepared (that's by far the best JRA result we've had in over three months, and you have to go back to October to better it, and both came courtesy of Ogata-sensei). To be honest, today was the result I was banking on - I have a feeling 'Massa' will disappoint, as there is bound to be race-rust and the results of having spent too way much time at Northern Farm to take into account, and so I think Shine Tiara will therefore be the one to give us a better chance at win #45 at Kawasaki on Monday...
Just got some news in on Rush Attack, and now, after weeks of speculation, it has been decided that it's not a skin complaint after all, but a hoof complaint - another example of Northern Farm expertise! Now I know a horse that had this - a horse owned by a friend who is not only a damned good horsewoman but also had it looked after by the best vet in the business (all the top racing stables call on him) - and it took a year to get it sorted to the point where light training could start again. That, to me, means the end of Rush Attack's racing career, surely? A horse that won its first race on its seventh attempt in August 2015 and has done nothing since is not like Nijinsky, where the chances of great things are still high even after a long lay-off. To me, there is no option - it's time for retirement, a gentle recuperation and then a life as a riding horse once the hoof is fixed.
