SIXTH
Lourdes No Hitomi finished sixth today, having started fourth favourite. Although on paper there's not all that much to celebrate, as she was fifth last time, she is improving all the time. Indeed, the jockey thought he had it in the bag at one point, but when the extra gear at the top of the performance envelope was called for, there was nothing in the tank.

In other news, True Motion has arrived at the Kimura Stable at Miho Training Centre. Now her training will begin in earnest, and we will have a true racehorse on our hands within the next few weeks. Yuta Sato, one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, had his JRA debut today. While the results were a poor reflection of the effort put in, I salute the owners that gave him the ride, and trust they'll continue to show faith in his skills in the future.
WHO CARES?
The school sports day has ended with my arms and face so red that I look like 'Larry The Lobster' or one of the Ultraman characters. But who cares? I don't, because a very special piece of fabric arrived via Black Cat today - a chunk of history that is unique and can never be replaced or duplicated. Yes, it's the saddle cloth from Tenny's second win, captured in February. I shall treasure it every bit as much as the vision of watching this beautiful monster in action...

CHIBA TB SALE
To be perfectly honest, I'm not buying into this 'Japan is Booming' thing right now - I just can't see it in real life, as opposed to paper accounting. On saying that, it was a busy day at the Chiba Thoroughbred Sale today, with some very high prices being paid on certain horses. I had my eye on three of them (with the one I wanted the most being pictured here), but the wife was giving me the evil eye at the same time, so maybe next year...

One of the fun things about these auctions is the people attending them - jockeys (and now is as good a time as any to wish Yuta Sato all the very best in his long overdue JRA debut tomorrow), trainers, and owners from all leagues, as well as the odd famous vet that tunes into this blog! You soon come to realize that the horse world is remarkably small and tight, with some wonderful characters in it.

SATURDAY DIRT RACE
It's a shame Tenshinramman won't be in The Oaks, but Lourdes No Hitomi is still on for the 2100m dirt race scheduled for Saturday at Tokyo-Fuchu, while Harmony Fair runs in the Shinzan Cup during the following weekend. Please be sure to support them both, as well as their jockeys!

NEWCOMER NEWS
On the Carrot Club front, Agua De Vida passed her first set of NAR tests, and has more booked for next week - she's getting very close to making her debut now. Likewise, Dinner Bell is making fast progress, and will be sent to her JRA racing stable soon. Those working with her are very excited, as she's already showing a natural racing spirit. All the other kids are doing well enough, but nothing more than routine things to report at this stage...

As for the Sunday TC contenders, Pop Label, he's now passed all his tests, and should therefore be making his NAR debut at any minute. Nothing new to report on the other Sunday TC and Shadai TC newcomers at the moment, but Pop Label's rapid progress is very pleasing. Please support him!

PS. Bumped into Sunami-san at the Chiba Thoroughbred Sale, and he told me video footage was available of Pop Label's test. I've found it now, and if you want to see it, please use this link: http://movie.hokkaidokeiba.net/user-data/noken/20130514-05.asx. He's number 4.
